No one quite understood what it meant for the woods to be silent. Na would describe it as the lack of human made noises. He loved it. As he walked through the woods his senses are heightened. He listened for large creatures as he carefully stepped over moss covered rocks. This was his paradise.

He stopped on a rocky outcropping, taking his backpack off and digging for his map and compass. He went over in his mind just what trails he planned to take on his little trip. There were enough supplies in his pack for three days, longer if he rationed them. The people he wanted to know were aware of where he was and the rough time frame of when he'd return. To allay their fears he had the good sense to pack a GPS, only using it to keep track once a day.

Something caught his eyes, making him duck behind a rock. Orange vests. Hunters in an area where it was illegal to hunt. Great. Just what I need to ruin my day, he thought to himself. The best bet was for him to stay hidden. If he was lucky, these were just men who were lost and needed to be shown where to go. Worst case scenario was that these were poachers. He made sure to wear attire for outings like this that would not let him be mistaken for an animal in the area, so if he did come out of hiding, he'd be safe. Hopefully.

Nari made the decision to come out of hiding even if his gut told him not to. He had to know. Keeping his rifle strapped to his back, he made his way down to the hunters. The sound of raucous laughter sent a shiver up his spine. "Fuck... they gotta be drunk." That made everything a lot more dangerous. He made the mistake of tensing up at the laughter, noting too late that there had been a loud crack from under his foot. Nari let his eyes travel down as a second crack reverberated through the air. His shoulder felt like it had been thumped hard.

Panic set in a second later. He'd been shot at. The laughter had turned into slurred shouting and the crash of the men coming through the thicket to get to him. As quick as Nari could, he swung on his heel, swinging his rifle off of his shoulder to take aim. One. Two. Three. Each shot was fast, but timed. One of the men went down immediately after the first two. That left one more. Before Nari could get his fourth shot in, he felt a thump against his stomach. Swallowing hard, he decided to take the last shot to take the other hunter out.

The rifle gets dropped right after. Hands flew to the freely bleeding wound on his stomach. Nari looked down with a laugh, sinking down into a sitting position. The hit hadn't hurt. If it had he would have been on the ground and unable to do anything but let the other hunter kill him outright. He sighed and shook his head. "Great. Just great. I locked the front door, and the keys are in my bag... who's gonna feed my cat?"

Somehow dying felt a lot more peaceful than he thought it would. He laid down on the mossy ground and watched the sky through the trees. There could be worse ways to die, he mused to himself as everything faded to black.
